I believe it is the OS refusing to launch the app. I shall consider this closed/answered (Unless there is a way to change the capability checking or the stored version). Anyhow, thanks for all the info everyone. Still irks me that I am being forced to upgrade. Thanks for the clarification that it is the application and not the OS. It's much more useful to inform the user up-front rather than crash out half way through the application. It's more likely going to be the application checking that the OS is the required version. I was really hoping there was some easy way of disabling this check, but I didn't see any response that would indicate this fact. I am now trying to convert the VMWare over to Virtual PC (as I do have that on my PC), but running into other problems (argh). I don't have VMWare Workstation on my Windows PC any more and a few years ago when I bought my first and only Mac (MacBook Air) I bought Fusion to run XP and Win 7. I first created it back around 2003ish and has all my TT installation since that time frame. Just as a background, this Virtual Machine has been around for a long long long time.

I didn't realize that Mac OS has this feature and the first time I ran into this issue. I guess there is no easy way of disabling or changing the OS X (I have MacOS 10.10.2) from performing this check. Thanks for the information, though a bit more than what I was looking for. No sending my return to the cloud (that I'm aware of). I e-filed my Fed return and printed it, and I printed my state return. It ASKED if I wanted to backup my return to the cloud, it didn't require me to.

I just filed my Fed & State taxes using Mac OS X native TurboTax Deluxe (bought CD from Walmart).

Now using some other tax software might be a good idea you can't print? You can show the damn thing on the screen, but you can't print it! I'm sure there is some reason behind this decision other than poor software architecture but. of course I don't have to buy it through the app store, but they distribute a non-printing version on their website too, and really. Intuit made some excuse about the App store restricting third party libraries.

or buy the Mac OS X version of TurboTax (or, insert other tax software)Įxcept that the OS X version doesn't let you print your return without sending your return to Turbotax online! I don't know if this is mrhicks reason or not but it baffles me, the point is that the OS X version may not be a drop in replacement, some people don't trust their tax returns to the cloud, or Turbotax/intuit in particular.
